LASH (2)

LASH (Lighter Aboard Ship) is a system of loading and unloading cargo using barges or lighters that are hoisted onto a larger vessel, such as a container ship or a bulk carrier. The barges are specially designed to fit into a slot on the larger vessel, and are secured in place with lashing rods and turnbuckles. This system allows for the transportation of large quantities of cargo that may not fit into standard shipping containers, such as heavy machinery or oversized equipment. LASH vessels are commonly used in ports with shallow water or limited infrastructure, as they can be loaded and unloaded without the need for expensive dockside cranes or other equipment.
