LASH

LASH (Lighter Aboard Ship) is a system of loading and unloading cargo from a barge onto a larger vessel using a specially designed platform. The platform, known as a LASH carrier, is equipped with cranes that can lift and lower barges loaded with cargo. The LASH system is used to transport large quantities of cargo that cannot be loaded directly onto a ship due to size or weight restrictions. The LASH carrier can transport multiple barges at once, making it an efficient method of cargo transportation. The LASH system was developed in the 1960s and was widely used in the 1970s and 1980s, but has since been largely replaced by containerization.
