Marine Communications
Marine Communications refers to the various methods and technologies used to facilitate communication between vessels, between vessels and shore stations, or between individuals on the same vessel in the maritime industry. This communication is crucial for navigation, safety, and general operations at sea. The primary forms of marine communication include radio communication, satellite communication, and visual signaling. Radio communication, such as Very High Frequency (VHF) and High Frequency (HF) radios, is used for short and long-range communication respectively. Satellite communication, such as the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), provides global coverage and is used for distress signaling and safety communication. Visual signaling, such as flags, lights, and semaphore, is used for close-range communication. Marine communications also encompass the use of navigational aids like radar, sonar, and GPS for safe and efficient navigation.
