Radio Communication

Radio communication is the transmission of signals by radio waves from one point to another. In the maritime context, radio communication is an essential tool for communication between ships, between ships and shore stations, and for receiving weather and navigational information. Radio communication is used for safety purposes, such as distress calls, as well as for routine communication, such as exchanging information about ship movements and cargo operations. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) regulates radio communication in the maritime industry through a set of rules and regulations known as the Radio Regulations.
