Maritime Domain Awareness
Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) is a critical aspect of maritime security that involves the effective understanding of anything associated with the maritime domain that could impact the security, safety, economy, or environment. The maritime domain is all areas and things of, on, under, relating to, adjacent to, or bordering on a sea, ocean, or other navigable waterway, including all maritime-related activities, infrastructure, people, cargo, and vessels and other conveyances. MDA is achieved through the integration of intelligence, surveillance, observation, and navigation systems. It includes the collection, fusion, analysis, and dissemination of maritime data, information, and knowledge. The goal of MDA is to provide the accurate and timely information necessary to support decision-making processes, particularly those related to maritime security operations. It is a key component in ensuring the effective management of maritime activities and the protection of maritime interests.
