Mate
A mate is a senior crew member on a merchant vessel who is responsible for the safety and security of the ship, cargo, crew, and passengers. They work closely with the captain and are responsible for navigation, communication, and the overall operation of the vessel. Mates are also responsible for supervising the deck crew and ensuring that all equipment and machinery are in good working order.
