Propulsion System

A propulsion system is a mechanism that produces thrust to propel a vessel forward or backward. In the maritime context, propulsion systems are used to move ships, boats, and submarines through water. The most common types of propulsion systems used in the maritime industry are diesel engines, gas turbines, and electric motors. Propulsion systems can be further classified into two categories: mechanical propulsion systems and non-mechanical propulsion systems. Mechanical propulsion systems use a propeller to generate thrust, while non-mechanical propulsion systems use water jets or air propellers. The efficiency and reliability of a propulsion system are critical to the performance of a vessel, and regular maintenance is required to ensure optimal performance.
