Roaring Forties

Roaring Forties is a maritime term used to describe the strong westerly winds found in the Southern Hemisphere between the latitudes of 40 and 50 degrees. These winds are caused by the combination of the earth's rotation and the cold air from Antarctica meeting the warmer air from the north. The Roaring Forties are known for their strength and consistency, making them ideal for sailing ships to travel quickly across the ocean. However, they can also be dangerous, with large waves and storms often accompanying the strong winds.
