Seagrass

Seagrasses are flowering plants that grow in shallow marine and estuarine waters. They form extensive meadows in coastal areas and provide important ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, and habitat for a diverse range of marine organisms. Seagrasses are also important for coastal protection, as they can reduce the impact of waves and storms on shorelines. However, seagrass meadows are under threat from human activities such as coastal development, pollution, and climate change, which can lead to their decline and loss. Conservation efforts are needed to protect and restore seagrass ecosystems.
