Ship Security Plan (SSP)

The Ship Security Plan (SSP) is a comprehensive document that outlines the security measures and procedures implemented on a ship to protect it from potential security threats. It is a mandatory requirement under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to enhance maritime security in response to the heightened global security risks. The SSP includes details about the ship's security officer, the duties and responsibilities of the crew in maintaining security, the security equipment on board, and the procedures for dealing with various security levels and potential threats. It also includes measures for regular security audits, inspections, and drills to ensure the effectiveness of the security measures. The SSP is confidential and is only available to authorized personnel. It is approved by the flag state of the ship, and non-compliance can result in penalties, including the detention of the ship.
