Sovereignty
Sovereignty in maritime and seamanship context refers to the exclusive authority of a state over its territorial waters, including the airspace above and the seabed below. It is the power of a state to govern its maritime zones, including the establishment of laws, regulations, and policies that apply within its jurisdiction. Sovereignty is also related to the concept of flag state jurisdiction, which is the authority of a state to regulate and enforce laws on vessels flying its flag, regardless of their location. In addition, sovereignty is a key principle in the delimitation of maritime boundaries between neighboring states, as it determines the extent of each state's jurisdiction over the waters and resources in its adjacent zone.
