Spud
In maritime context, spud refers to a type of vertical pole or beam that is used to anchor a barge or a floating platform to the seabed. The spud is lowered from the vessel and driven into the seabed using a hydraulic or mechanical system. Once the spud is firmly embedded in the seabed, it provides a stable anchor point for the vessel, allowing it to remain stationary even in rough seas or strong currents. Spuds are commonly used in offshore construction, dredging, and other marine operations that require a stable platform for heavy equipment and machinery.
