Swinging Over

Swinging Over is a maneuver performed by a ship when it needs to change its direction without changing its position. This maneuver is usually performed by using the ship's engines and rudder to turn the ship in a tight circle around a fixed point. Swinging Over is commonly used when a ship needs to align itself with a berth or a narrow channel. The maneuver requires skill and experience from the ship's crew, as it can be dangerous if not executed properly. The ship's speed and the strength and direction of the wind and current must be taken into consideration to avoid collisions or grounding.
