Tripping Line
In maritime context, a tripping line is a rope or wire used to retrieve an anchor that has become stuck on the seabed. It is attached to the crown of the anchor and led up to the surface, where it can be pulled on to break the anchor free. The tripping line is usually made of a lightweight material, such as nylon, and is stored on the vessel's deck or in a locker. It is an essential piece of equipment for any vessel that regularly anchors in shallow or rocky waters, where the risk of getting the anchor stuck is high.
