Longitudinal Centre Of Gravity (LCG)

Longitudinal Centre of Gravity (LCG) is the point along the length of a ship at which the vessel would balance if it were possible to suspend it at that point. It is an important parameter in ship design and stability calculations. The LCG is measured from the forward perpendicular of the ship and is expressed as a distance in meters. The position of the LCG affects the trim of the ship, which is the difference in draft between the forward and aft ends of the vessel. A ship with a forward LCG will trim by the head, while a ship with an aft LCG will trim by the stern. The LCG is also used to calculate the longitudinal stability of the ship.
