Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU)

A Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) is a standard unit of measurement used for describing the capacity of container ships and container terminals. It represents the volume of a standard 20-foot container, which is 1,360 cubic feet (38.5 cubic meters). The capacity of container ships and terminals is often measured in terms of the number of TEUs they can handle or carry. For example, a small container ship may have a capacity of 1,000 TEUs, while a large one can carry up to 24,000 TEUs. The use of TEUs as a standard unit of measurement has greatly simplified the planning and management of container shipping operations.
