VHF Radio

VHF (Very High Frequency) Radio is a communication system widely used in the maritime industry for a variety of purposes, including the transmission and reception of distress signals, ship-to-ship communication, and ship-to-shore communication. Operating in the frequency range of 156 to 174 MHz, VHF Radio provides a reliable and clear communication channel over short to medium distances, typically up to 20 nautical miles. It is an essential piece of equipment on board vessels, mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention. VHF Radio systems are equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) capabilities, allowing for direct contact with specific vessels or shore stations, and also include features for automatic distress alerting. In addition to voice communication, VHF Radio can also transmit data, including ship identification and position information, contributing to the safety and efficiency of maritime operations.
