Watch System

In maritime context, a watch system refers to the division of the crew into teams that take turns to be on duty and to monitor the ship's operations and safety. The watch system ensures that the ship is constantly monitored and that any issues or emergencies are detected and addressed promptly. The most common watch system is the traditional '4-on, 8-off' system, where the crew is divided into three or four teams, and each team takes turns to work for four hours and rest for eight hours. However, other watch systems, such as the '6-on, 6-off' or '5-on, 10-off' systems, may also be used depending on the ship's size, crew size, and operational requirements.
