Waterspouts

Waterspouts are rotating columns of water and spray that are formed by a whirlwind occurring over a body of water. They are typically classified as either tornadic or fair weather waterspouts. Tornadic waterspouts are associated with severe thunderstorms and are similar to tornadoes in their formation and structure. Fair weather waterspouts, on the other hand, are not associated with thunderstorms and are generally less intense. They are often formed by convective clouds and can occur in warm, tropical waters. Waterspouts can be dangerous to ships and boats, as they can cause strong winds and high waves in their immediate vicinity.
