Well Deck

A well deck is a lower deck located at the aft end of a ship's superstructure, primarily used for the storage and handling of cargo, vehicles, and landing craft. It is designed to be flooded to allow for the deployment of amphibious vehicles and watercraft. The well deck is typically open to the elements and is surrounded by bulkheads to prevent water from entering other parts of the ship. The use of well decks is common in amphibious warfare ships, such as LHDs and LPDs, which are designed to support amphibious operations by transporting and deploying troops and equipment from ship to shore.
