Whipping

Whipping is a method of binding the end of a rope to prevent it from fraying or unraveling. It involves wrapping a thin twine tightly around the rope's end and tying it off. Whipping is commonly used on the ends of ropes that are not frequently handled or that are cut to length. It is also used on the ends of ropes that are spliced to prevent the splice from coming undone. Whipping can be done with a variety of materials, including twine, waxed thread, or electrical tape. It is an important skill for sailors to learn as it helps to maintain the integrity of the ropes and prevent accidents at sea.
