Hawse Pipe

A hawse pipe is a pipe or a hole in the bow of a ship through which the anchor chain passes. It is designed to protect the chain from damage as it enters and exits the hull of the ship. Hawse pipes are usually made of steel or iron and are located on the port and starboard sides of the bow. They are an essential component of the anchor system and are used to secure the ship in place when at anchor. The size of the hawse pipe is determined by the size of the anchor chain and the depth of the water in which the ship will be anchored.
