Wing

In maritime context, a wing refers to a structure attached to the side of a vessel that extends outwards to increase the surface area of the hull and provide additional stability. Wings are typically used on vessels that operate in rough seas or have a high center of gravity, such as cruise ships and ferries. They work by creating a lifting force that counteracts the rolling motion of the vessel, reducing the amount of sway and improving passenger comfort. Wings can be fixed or retractable, and are often made of lightweight materials such as aluminum or composite materials to minimize weight and improve fuel efficiency.
