Bosun

A bosun, or boatswain, is a senior crew member responsible for the maintenance and repair of a ship's hull, deck, and rigging. They supervise the deck crew and ensure that all equipment and tools are properly stowed and maintained. The bosun is also responsible for the safety of the crew during deck operations, such as mooring and anchoring. They work closely with the chief mate and captain to plan and execute maintenance and repair tasks, and may also be responsible for training new crew members in deck operations and safety procedures.
