Bow Thruster

A bow thruster is a propulsion device that is mounted on the bow of a ship or boat to provide lateral (sideways) thrust, making the vessel more maneuverable. It consists of a propeller that is mounted in a tunnel through the bow below the waterline, which can be rotated to direct the thrust in any desired direction. Bow thrusters are typically used in situations where a vessel needs to make tight turns or maneuver in close quarters, such as when docking or navigating through narrow channels. They are especially useful for large ships that are difficult to maneuver using only their main engines and rudder. Bow thrusters can be powered by electric motors, hydraulic systems, or diesel engines.
