Cockpit

In maritime context, the cockpit is the area of a small boat or a yacht where the skipper or helmsman operates the vessel. It is usually located at the aft of the boat and contains the steering wheel or tiller, engine controls, and other navigational instruments. The cockpit is designed to provide the skipper with a clear view of the surrounding water and to allow easy access to the sails and rigging. It is also the area where the crew can gather during sailing and where safety equipment such as life jackets and flares are stored. The cockpit is an essential part of any vessel and its design and layout can greatly affect the boat's performance and safety.
