Conservation Strategies
In the maritime context, conservation strategies refer to the set of practices, policies, and regulations aimed at preserving and protecting the marine environment and its biodiversity. These strategies are designed to mitigate the impact of human activities such as overfishing, pollution, and climate change on marine ecosystems. They include measures such as the establishment of marine protected areas (MPAs), implementation of sustainable fishing practices, reduction of marine pollution, and promotion of marine biodiversity conservation. MPAs are designated areas in the ocean where human activities are more tightly regulated than the surrounding waters - these are established to protect ecosystems, preserve cultural resources like archaeological and historical sites, and provide spaces for scientific research. Sustainable fishing practices are methods that do not lead to overfishing or depletion of the species' population. Reduction of marine pollution involves strategies to control, prevent, or eliminate the release of substances or energy into the marine environment that can harm marine life, habitats, or interfere with legitimate uses of the sea. Lastly, promoting marine biodiversity conservation involves protecting the variety of life in the ocean, including the genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity.
