Galileo System

In the maritime context, the Galileo System refers to a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that has been developed by the European Union (EU) in conjunction with the European Space Agency (ESA). It is designed to provide high-precision positioning and timing information to users around the globe. The system is named after the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei. The Galileo System is intended to provide an independent high-precision positioning system so European nations do not have to rely on the Global Positioning System (GPS), which is controlled by the United States, or the GLONASS, which is controlled by Russia. The Galileo System is expected to provide a high level of accuracy, and is crucial for advanced maritime navigation. It provides real-time positioning accuracy down to the meter range, which is phenomenal for various maritime operations including shipping, fishing, and search and rescue operations.
