High-pressure Systems

In maritime context, high-pressure systems refer to areas of the ocean where the atmospheric pressure is higher than the surrounding areas. These systems are characterized by clear skies, calm winds, and generally fair weather conditions. High-pressure systems are formed when cool, dense air sinks and displaces warmer air, creating an area of high pressure. In the Northern Hemisphere, winds circulate clockwise around high-pressure systems, while in the Southern Hemisphere, winds circulate counterclockwise. Mariners need to be aware of the location and movement of high-pressure systems as they can affect navigation, weather patterns, and ocean currents.
