Native Vegetation

Native vegetation refers to the plant species that are indigenous to a particular geographic area and have not been introduced by humans. In the maritime context, native vegetation can refer to the plant species that grow in coastal areas, including salt marshes, mangroves, and seagrass beds. These habitats are important for the health of marine ecosystems, as they provide food and shelter for a variety of marine species, including fish, crustaceans, and birds. Native vegetation also helps to stabilize shorelines and prevent erosion, which is particularly important in areas that are prone to storms and sea level rise. However, native vegetation is often threatened by human activities such as development, pollution, and overfishing, which can lead to the loss of important habitat and biodiversity.
