Navigational Light

Navigational lights are a set of lights that are used to help vessels navigate safely at night or in times of reduced visibility. These lights are placed on different parts of the vessel and have different colors, angles, and intensities to indicate the vessel's position, direction, and status. The most common navigational lights are red and green lights on the vessel's bow, a white light on the stern, and a white masthead light. These lights help other vessels determine the direction of travel and avoid collisions. Navigational lights are regulated by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) and must be used by all vessels when underway between sunset and sunrise or in times of reduced visibility.
