Port Hole

A port hole is a small, usually circular, window on a ship's hull that allows light and air to enter the interior spaces of the vessel. Port holes are typically made of glass or acrylic and are designed to be watertight. They are often found on the lower decks of a ship and can be opened or closed to regulate ventilation. In addition to their practical function, port holes are also a decorative element on many ships, with ornate frames and designs. The term 'port hole' is believed to have originated from the French word 'porte', meaning door, and 'trou', meaning hole.
