Reference Point

A reference point is a fixed location used to determine the position of a vessel or an object in relation to a specific point or area. In maritime context, reference points are often used to establish safe navigation routes, to monitor the movement of vessels, and to ensure that vessels maintain a safe distance from hazards such as rocks, shoals, and other vessels. Reference points can be natural or man-made, and can include lighthouses, buoys, beacons, landmarks, and GPS coordinates. They are essential for safe navigation and are used by navigators, pilots, and other maritime professionals to ensure the safety of vessels and crew.
