Swivel

A swivel is a device that allows rotation of one end of a rope or cable without twisting the entire length. In maritime context, swivels are commonly used in mooring operations to prevent the mooring lines from twisting and potentially breaking due to the movement of the vessel. They are also used in towing operations to prevent the tow line from twisting and kinking. Swivels can be made of various materials such as steel, bronze, or aluminum, and can be designed for different load capacities and working conditions.
