Waterway Bar

A waterway bar is a natural or man-made obstruction that forms across a waterway, such as a river or a harbor, due to the accumulation of sediment, silt, or sand. Waterway bars can pose a significant navigational hazard to ships and boats, especially those with a deep draft, as they can cause the vessel to run aground or become stuck. In order to prevent accidents and ensure safe navigation, waterway bars are often marked with buoys or beacons, and their location is indicated on nautical charts. Dredging is a common method used to remove sediment and maintain the depth of the waterway channel.
