Windlass

A windlass is a type of winch used on ships to hoist anchors and heavy equipment. It is typically located on the bow of the ship and consists of a horizontal cylinder around which a chain or rope is wound. The windlass is powered by a motor or by manual labor, and it is used to raise and lower the anchor, as well as to control the tension of the anchor chain. The windlass is an essential piece of equipment on any ship that needs to anchor, as it allows the crew to safely and efficiently deploy and retrieve the anchor.
