Anchoring

Anchoring is the process of securing a vessel to the seabed or a fixed object using an anchor. It is an essential operation for ships to maintain their position and prevent drifting. The anchor is lowered from the bow of the ship and allowed to dig into the seabed, providing a strong holding force. The anchor chain or rope is then paid out to a sufficient length to ensure that the anchor is firmly embedded in the seabed. The process of anchoring requires careful consideration of the seabed conditions, weather, and tidal currents to ensure that the anchor is properly set and the vessel remains secure. In addition, proper maintenance of the anchor and chain is essential to ensure their reliability and effectiveness.
