Invasive Aquatic Species

Invasive Aquatic Species refer to non-native aquatic plants, animals, and microorganisms that are introduced into a new environment and cause harm to the native species and their habitats. These species can be introduced intentionally or unintentionally through various means such as ballast water discharge, aquarium releases, and aquaculture activities. Invasive species can outcompete native species for resources, alter the food web, and cause economic and ecological damage. They can also impact human health by spreading diseases and toxins. Prevention and early detection are key to managing invasive aquatic species. This can be achieved through measures such as ballast water management, quarantine protocols, and public education.
