Radio Navigation-satellite Service

Radio Navigation-satellite Service (RNSS) is a type of radio communication service in the maritime context that uses satellites to provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning with global coverage. It allows electronic receivers to determine their location (longitude, latitude, and altitude) to high precision using time signals transmitted along a line of sight by radio from satellites. RNSS is crucial for maritime navigation as it provides accurate and reliable positioning information, which is essential for safe and efficient navigation at sea. It is used in conjunction with other navigation aids and charts to determine the ship's position, course, and speed. RNSS also plays a vital role in search and rescue operations at sea by providing precise location information. The most well-known example of RNSS is the Global Positioning System (GPS), but other systems like GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (European Union), and BeiDou (China) also provide similar services.
