Solid Bulk Cargoes

Solid Bulk Cargoes refer to homogeneous commodities that are loaded individually and not in containers, such as coal, grain, iron ore, and cement. These cargoes are usually transported in large quantities and are loaded directly into the cargo holds of a ship. The carriage of solid bulk cargoes requires special attention to ensure the safety of the ship, crew, and cargo. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has developed the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code, which provides guidelines for the safe carriage of solid bulk cargoes. The Code includes information on the properties of different types of cargoes, the procedures for loading and unloading, and the precautions that should be taken to prevent cargo shift or liquefaction.
