STCW
The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) sets minimum qualification standards for masters, officers and watch personnel on seagoing merchant ships and large yachts. The convention also regulates rest periods, hours of work and watchkeeping, medical fitness standards for seafarers, and requires flag states to maintain registers of certificates and endorsements for seafarers. The STCW aims to ensure that seafarers are trained, certified, and competent to perform their duties onboard, and to promote safety of life at sea and the protection of the marine environment.
