Fore Peak
Fore Peak is a compartment located at the forward end of a ship's hull, below the main deck and above the collision bulkhead. It is used for storing various equipment and supplies, such as ropes, chains, and spare anchors. The fore peak is also used as a ballast tank to adjust the ship's trim and stability. In case of a collision or grounding, the fore peak is designed to withstand the impact and prevent flooding of other compartments. It is usually accessed through a watertight hatch on the main deck or through a vertical ladder from the deck below.
